WORKSHOP Explore how type design can create musical qualities in this workshop!
Taking musical compositions as a starting point and source of inspiration, participants will create typographic compositions using modules as building blocks for characters. From sketches to font files, we will explore the full process of making a typeface from scratch. This will be an exercise in perceiving typography as a means of visualizing sound (which, in essence, it is), as well as an introduction to the digital tools of the trade.
We will use paper and various drawing materials (you are encouraged to bring your own), cameras (including phone cameras), and laptops with Glyphs App (a trial version is sufficient).
