SCIENCE/FICTION – A NON-HISTORY OF PLANTS
HAPPENING This group exhibition at FOTO ARSENAL WIEN invites visitors to engage with the history of plant life in ways that are as sensuous as they are speculative and thought-provoking.

What if plants were more intelligent than we thought? What if they could observe, communicate—and perhaps even dream?
Science/Fiction—A Non-History of Plants invites visitors to consider the sensuous, speculative, and insightful history of the plant world. In collaboration with the Maison Européenne de la Photographie (MEP) in Paris, the group show brings together works by over forty international artists. Historical pioneers of photography enter into dialogue with contemporary artists. Cyanotypes from the nineteenth century and other early photographic techniques reflect our surroundings in combination with video works and hybrid imagery—even moving beyond human perception.
