Ghosts of Tomorrow is an ongoing project by artist Kuki Iwanski that uses the form of the flag to address global issues. The works transform this familiar symbol into a reflection on loss, memory, and the challenges we all face.
Ghosts of Tomorrow uses the familiar form of a flag—but stripped of any ideology or national identity. Instead, the flags represent causes and problems we all need to face together: disappearing ecosystems, digital waste, and the slow fading of our sensory connection to the world.
In a time when shocking images often lose their impact, the project avoids slogans and noise. The flags don’t scream—they create quiet tension, shifting how we see and feel. Rather than offering redemption, the work pauses the constant flow of images and invites us to reflect, if only for a moment, on what is vanishing.
At Forward Festival 2025, the project will be presented as a temporary field of flags, their colors and forms shifting gently in relation to the surrounding architecture.
