The second edition of “The Healthy Times” by the iconic Healthy Boy Band is here and it’s a huge one: Design studio OrtnerSchinko created a 560 pages book containing everything that the Healthy Boy Band chefs have ever done, cooked, burnt or served. The magazine’s design is classic O.S.: minimalistic and a bit unusual.

Not your average recipe collection: Part two of “The Healthy Times” looks at food in all its shapes and forms and offers up art, travel, stories on cooks and recipes, as well as philosophy, literature, and even death. Whenever the Healthy Boys Lukas Mraz, Philipp Rachinger and Felix Schellhorn bear a new idea, you just know it’s going to be something special. This time it was up to Wolfgang Ortner, designer and art director at OrtnerSchinko, to make their dreams come true.

In the case of the second edition of “The Healthy Times” it was clear that the magazine need its very own, specific and extraordinary graphics concept including photographs and drawings by various artists. With this approach O.S. aims to create a cooking magazine that is far from an elitist train of thought, luxurious design, or hyper-masculinity and female belittlement – just something you have never seen before.

Issue No. 2 comes in flashy colors, minimalistic design and super fun photos, which basically picture The Healthy Boy Band’s life’s work on over 500 pages. OrtnerSchinko’s commitment to simplicity and typographic outlets allows a certain openness, therefore the magazine seems to be “undesigned”, which makes the book approachable for a large target group while not forfeiting its stylishness.

You can listen to Wolfang Ortner and his business partner Kira Schinko talking about their love for simplicity at Forward Festival Vienna this October, where the dream team will be live on stage.
