"Backyard Session" by Erik Kessels

BACKYARD SESSION

In this workshop by Erik Kessels, participants will start a search in their own ‘Backyard’. Going metaphorically to your own ‘Backyard’ can become an exploration of new, authentic, and unexpected ideas.

Often creatives make only use of their ‘Frontyard’. A place where you can showcase your finished work and where it is perfected, but it’s the ‘Backyard’ where often your personality, unfinished projects, previous and new ideas are hidden.
Erik Kessels will guide the participants, exploring the obstructions and possibilities in their work and finding ways to bring the backyard to the front.

As an artist and curator Kessels has published over 75 books of his ‘re-appropriated’ images: Wonder (2003), in almost every picture (2001-2019), Shit (2018) and Read Naked (2019). Since 2000, he has been an editor of the alternative photography magazine Useful Photography and has written the international bestseller Failed It!
